Top Status Trends forFacebook Publishes 2009

facebookFacebook users are a pretty important group of people; after all, in recent months, it's been established that there are more of them than there are individuals in the United States. So to wrap up 2009, Facebook's provided a list that helps spell out what its users have been thinking about all year.

You can view the list of top status trends below. It was made possible thanks to something termed "Facebook Memology," and as you can see, has been a bit simplified (condensing Farmville, Farm Town, and Social Living into "Facebook Applications," for example).

We'll respect your intelligence by just hitting some of the items that might not be completely obvious. Here's a quick one: at number two, "FML" stands for "f*ck my life." Which makes sense given the economy's nosedive.

Then, at number eleven, "years" is nothing more than a reference to dates like 2008, 2009, and 2010. Apparently a lot of folks thought about life on something other than a day-to-day basis.

Finally, "yard" is simply a reference to the green things that surround houses. To explain this word's presence, data scientist Lars Backstrom theorized on the Facebook Blog, "[H]ipsters' moms and dads are also on Facebook, and these folks have yards that require some tending." Or it might have something to do with the housing stimulus and a fair number of young people getting yards for the first time.

American Idol : Top 13 finalists chosen

13 turned out to be the lucky number for Anoop Desai on "American Idol."

After announcing the three remaining finalists at the end of Thursday's wild card round, Simon Cowell announced that the much-loved 22-year-old college student from Chapel Hill, N.C., won a previously unannounced 13th spot in the next round of the popular Fox singing contest. In past seasons, 12 finalists were picked to move on.

"We decided -- recently -- we're going to make this a top 13," Cowell revealed.

The three other wild-card finalists were Jasmine Murray, the big-voiced 16-year-old high school student from Starkville, Miss.; Megan Corkrey, the quirky 22-year-old single mother from Sandy, Utah; and Matt Giraud, the soulful 23-year-old dueling piano player from Kalamazoo, Mich.

The previously dismissed foursome were selected by the show's judges.

Desai's last-minute selection wasn't the night's only seemingly unscripted moment. After oh-so-emotional semifinalist Tatiana Del Toro performed Whitney Houston's "Saving All My Love For You," she kneeled and pleaded for a spot from the judges. Then, host Ryan Seacrest came on stage and told her she didn't have to get up off her knees.

"Family show, family show," judge Kara DioGuardi repeatedly proclaimed throughout the awkward moment.

Desai, Murray, Corkrey and Giraud join previously picked finalists Kris Allen, Danny Gokey, Alexis Grace, Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert, Scott MacIntyre, Jorge Nunez, Lil Rounds and Michael Sarver. The 13 finalists will start competing next Tuesday -- with one singer sent packing each Wednesday.

Bill Gate ban iPhone in His Home

Bill Gates's sprawling Washington state compound is, as you might expect, packed to the gills with bleeding-edge gear, from the heated floors and 20-seat home theater to the X-ray machine (for screening the mail, of course) and miles of fiber-optic cabling. But here's what you definitely won't find at chez Gates: an iPhone.

In the latest issue of Vogue, Bill's wife, Melinda Gates, reveals that among the "very few things" on "the banned list in our household" are—you guessed it—iPods and iPhones.

Brutal, yes—especially for Bill and Melinda's three kids (two daughters and a son, aged 12, six, and nine, respectively), who'll just have to grin and bear it as their little pals make merry with the latest and greatest iPod.

And even Melinda herself admits to an occasional pang of Apple envy: "Every now and then I look at my friends and say, 'Ooh, I wouldn't mind having that iPhone.'" (Ouch!)

Then again, what else did we expect from Microsoft founder Bill Gates? The man has his pride, not to mention scores of Windows Mobile and Zune team members who'd probably feel a tad bit hurt if Bill Jr. was running around with an iPhone.

So, which phones and MP3 players are on the Gates's "good-to-go" list? Well, there's always the Zune for music and video—not the sexiest MP3 player out there, mind you, but at least it's got Wi-Fi and a snazzy interface.

And of course, there are plenty of Windows Mobile handsets to choose from; personally, I'd go for the Palm Treo Pro (if I had to get a Windows Mobile phone, that is), although it's not exactly a barrel of fun for the teens. Or how about the HTC Touch Pro? That's a pretty cool phone … I guess (as I pat the iPhone 3G in my jeans pocket).

And Best Nude Actress goes to..

HANDS up who thinks the Oscars should have a Best Nude Actress category.

Us too! So we've come up with a list of girls who just might have won a special sort of Oscar last night had that gong existed.

We've shortlisted beauties including Penélope Cruz, above, who stripped off as Carolyn in Elogy.

Kate Winslet could have added to her trophy cabinet going nude in The Reader.

And the O.C's Mischa Barton would also have been in with a shout for Closing the Ring.

These scenes might be more red light that red carpet but they still take some skill.

Bras are hard enough to undo at the best of times, let alone on camera.

American Idol's Top 12 Glass Half Full

The usual combination of yes, yes and wha-huh? ensued on American Idol tonight.

After another hit-or-(terribly)-miss performance night, the voting public lofted another three hopefuls into the upper echelons of Idoldom, aka the Top 12.

We had high hopes for Allison Iraheta, Megan Corkrey, Adam Lambert, Jesse Langseth and a couple others. But with only a few slots to fill, we were going to have to be wrong about some people.

Well, yeah, we were wrong. And yet right at the same time!

A big voice in a small package, 16-year-old Allison, singlehandedly woke up the judges, who had been sinking into their chairs under the weight of bad song choices, when she boomed out "Alone."

american idolHer mature performance scored her tonight's first ticket into the Top 12 when Ryan Seacrest started the reaping and sowing.

Adam, with his David Cook-reminiscent hairdo and theatrical but inviting stage presence, was also a near sure thing—and sure enough, to his and our "Satisfaction," America agreed.

We had been thinking the third slot would go to one of the ladies—Megan, Jesse or Mishavonna Henson, perhaps.

But it was Kris Allen, aided by darn good looks, sheer likeability and potential—his "Man in the Mirror" was better the second time around, minus the nerves— who filled the final slot.

Minus the six slots that will be filled in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the judges finally admitted out loud that they would be picking a few of their favorite for the upcoming Wild Card sing-off, to take place March 5.

"Maybe even a couple from tonight you're going to see again," teased Simon Cowell.

The last group of semifinalists—Arianna Afsar, the lucky Felicia Barton, Kendall Beard, Ju'Not Joyner, Nathaniel Marshall, Kristen McNamara, Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre, Jorge Nuñez, Von Smith, Taylor Vaifanua and Alex Wagner-Trugman—take the stage next Wednesday.

Slumdog and Kate Win-a-lot

KATE WINSLET and SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE led a British triumph at the Oscars.

Six times nominated Kate kept it together as she finally accepted her first Best Actress gong and DANNY BOYLE'S low budget movie swept the board with a total of eight awards, including Best Director and Best Picture.

"I'd be lying if I said I hadn't made up some version of this speech," she said.

"I was eight years old and I'd have been standing in front of the bathroom mirror, and this would have been a shampoo bottle. It's not a shampoo bottle now!"

Thanking her mum and dad she looked for them in the audience and said: "Dad, whistle or something so I can tell where you are."

A loud whistle from the left of the theatre made the audience laugh and prompted an "I love you!" from The Reader actress.

Danny Boyle jumped up and down as he scooped the Best Director gong, the seventh of the evening for Slumdog Millionaire.

And after running up to the podium he explained: "My kids are too old to remember but when they were very young I promised that if this magic moment ever came, I would receive it in the spirit of Tigger. So that's what that was."

He went on to thank his children, his wife and, bizarrely, the St Mary's Social Club in Radcliffe.

Writer SIMON BEAUFOY scooped the first British Oscar when he won Best Adapted Screenplay.

And the movie also won awards for Best Cinematography, Film Editing and Sound Mixing, Best Original Score and Best Original Song.

Double celebration ... Danny Boyle with
a young star of his movie

The Best Actor category provided the only surprise of the evening when the award went to Milk star SEAN PENN instead of hot favourite MICKEY ROURKE, who has already bagged a Golden Globe and Bafta for his role in The Wrestler.

The winning actor, who plays gay activist Harvey Milk in the movie, raised a laugh when he called the audience "Commie, homo-loving sons of guns".

Vicky Cristina Barcelona star PENELOPE CRUZ beat AMY ADAMS, MARISA TOMEI, VIOLA DAVIS and Benjamin Button star TARAJI P. HENSON to walk away with the Best Supporting Actress gong.

The stunning star made part of her speech in Spanish and told the audience: "I dreamed of this since I was a little girl."

WALL. E cleaned up in the Best Animation category after presenter JACK BLACK joked: "Each year I do a Dreamworks movie then I take all the money to the Oscars and bet it on Pixar."

Addressing the Dreamworks head, co-host JENNIFER ANISTON added: "I'm sorry MR KATZENBERG. I don't know why we let him out."

HEATH LEDGER'S mum, dad and sister collected the Best Supporting Actor gong for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight.

EDDIE MURPHY presented comedian JERRY LEWIS with the Humanitarian Award for his work with children suffering from muscular dystrophy.

2009 Chicago Auto Show

Okay, so it's the middle of winter and Chicago is putting on an auto show. While ogling that dream car, you know in the back of your mind that perhaps it's an impractical choice when dealing with nasty weather. The solution? All-wheel-drive exotics. You can have your cake and eat it, too.2009 Lamborghini Murciélago

Okay, so all-wheel drive on the 2009 Lamborghini Murciélago probably won't help you much in the snow, but it sure helps put the 632 bhp down to the pavement. The Murciélago — a striking 2-door with a mid-mounted 6.5-liter V-12 — turns heads wherever it goes thanks to its origami-inspired styling and outrageous scissor-style doors. With all four wheels doing the work, the Murciélago sprints to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds.

2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI Quattro

Perhaps the sexiest 2-seater to come down the road in recent memory is the 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI Quattro. This shapely mid-engine exotic not only has all-wheel drive, but thanks to an all-new 5.2-liter V-10 pumping out 518 bhp, it now has much-needed muscle, which enables it to charge to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Of course, you can always opt for the standard R8, which is powered by a 4.2.-liter V-8 making only 420 bhp.

2009 Bentley Continental GT Speed

This comely coupe is as powerful as it is surefooted. 2009 Bentley Continental GT SpeedThe 2009 Bentley Continental GT Speed has a twin-turbo 6.0-liter W-12 that sends 600 bhp to all four wheels, enabling this British-built supercar to hit 60 mph in 4.0 seconds. But fast is only half of it. The richly appointed interior with matched wood veneers, luxurious leather and chromed organ-stop air vents makes this 2-door wonder a pleasure to savor either at speed or standing still.

2009 Mercedes-Benz S550 4Matic

Here's where practicality and luxury meet. The 2009 Mercedes-Benz S550 4Matic takes the winter worry out of driving Mercedes' flagship sedan. Power is sent to all four wheels from a 5.5-liter V-8 that produces 382 bhp. The S-Class blends stately exterior styling with a luxurious interior that offers quiet solitude from the winter elements. In addition to all-wheel drive, the S-Class boasts such conveniences as automatic set -and-forget cruise control.

2009 Nissan GT-R

Shaking up the exotic car status quo is the 2009 Nissan GT-R, a supercar from an unlikely source. The Japanese automaker fits this muscular-looking 2-door coupe with a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-6 pumping out an astounding 470 bhp. The GT-R is capable of 0– 60-mph acceleration of about 4.0 seconds. And yes, it has all-wheel drive with three settings: Normal, R (for high-speed track work) and Snow, which uses a less aggressive shift strategy to make this powerful exotic a car for all seasons.

'Saddened' Chris Brown Breaks Silence

A week after an alleged violent incident with Rihanna the night before the Grammy Awards, Chris Brown has spoken out.

"Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired," he said in a statement to Access Hollywood. "I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person."

With dozens of differing reports on the details of Brown's alleged assault on Rihanna running wild this week, the "Kiss Kiss" singer said many of them were false.

"Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong," he continued. "While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writings under my name are frauds."

Brown is under investigation by the LAPD for felony criminal threat and allegedly bit and hit Rihanna , who is currently home in Barbados, according to People.

Access has learned that Brown has hired public relations firm Sitrick and Company, who sent the statement. According to its Web site, the company has represented Kim Basinger , Michael Vick, Wesley Snipes and Toni Braxton , among others.

Rihanna's Father about His Daughter & Future With Chris Brown

New York -- Rihanna 's father, Ronald Fenty, has spoken out about the alleged attack on his daughter by boyfriend Chris Brown last weekend.

"You think you know somebody, but you really don't," he told People.

Brown allegedly bit and hit the "Disturbia" singer last Saturday night, hours after the two were spotted together at a pre-Grammy party honoring Clive Davis in Beverly Hills.

"There is some bruising," Fenty said of Rihanna 's current status.

According to People, he saw his daughter in Barbados on Thursday, though according to an interview with Us Magazine on Saturday, he denied contact.

"No, I haven't seen her," Fenty told Us. "I haven't seen her bruises."

In both interviews, he hopes that she'll use the experience to do good.

"She will be alright," he told People. "At some point, she will speak out. I hope she will stand up for women all over the world."

While he didn't shed light on what happened that night, the events seemed to come as a surprise to Fenty.

"They seemed pretty happy," he said. "I don't know what went wrong."

And as for the future of Rihanna 's relationship with Brown, he has one piece of fatherly advice.

"If it were me, I'd move on," he said.

The former DANITY KANE singer is pictured in a series of nude and risqué shots in the new issue of HUGH HEFNER’S magazine. In one she dons a black bikini that leaves little to the imagination. In another she wears only a necklace, stockings and pair of Louboutin heels, as she lays back on a huge golden couch.

Talking of the shoot, Aubrey said: “We constantly feel the need to not say this or not wear this or do that, and taking it all off and being nude is the most natural state that you can be in.

‘Housewives’ will smooch on future episode

The news that Nicollette Sheridan was decamping from Wisteria Lane was the biggest gossip to come out of the “Desperate Housewives” world until this: Eva Longoria and Teri Hatcher are going to lock lips during an upcoming episode, according to Celebuzz.

When asked for comment, reps for the show wouldn’t confirm or deny the report to Celebuzz.

Another source wouldn’t confirm, but noted “anything is kind of possible right now. You’ve got 'Grey’s Anatomy' and 'Private Practice' basically becoming one two-hour show (with Feb. 12's crossover episode), the longest ‘Dancing With the Stars’ tease ever. I don’t think a kiss between Eva and Teri’s characters could be ruled out, especially if it keeps people interested in the show.”

Kudrow talks ‘Friends’ reunion, TV showShould we brace ourselves for a "Friends" reunion movie?

Lisa Kudrow, who played spacey Phoebe on the hit NBC show, doesn't think so, although she says "I wouldn't be the only one not to do it. I wouldn't want to be that person."

Kudrow’s career has moved away from “Friends” (though people still call out "Phoebe!" on the street) but she still has ties to NBC, this time with a series she’s producing called “Who Do You Think You Are?,” in which celebrities trace their ancestry and travel through their countries of origin.

Kudrow's own episode took her to a village in Belarus where her grandmother grew up, but no relatives remain. "That part of it is a Holocaust story," she said. "That's why there's no one there."

Kudrow’s son, Julian, 10, was "not really interested” in her newer, more serious work, but he did recently catch one of his first onscreen glimpses of his mom in the kid-friendly "Hotel for Dogs." "He has proof that I'm an actress," Kudrow said.

And while Kudrow and her son certainly aren’t singing “Smelly Cat” at Central Perk, she did mention that they share a mutual love for Nintendo's handheld DS Lite, which keeps her occupied with puzzle games on set. Kudrow bought her first Gameboy in 1994 and started playing Tetris nonstop.

"It's a certain form of meditation," she said. "It sounds silly, but it just lets me relax when I'm in traffic or waiting through the carpool line."

Weekend box office

I really do feel a touch bad for Jerry Bruckheimer this weekend. Not only is he releasing a film titled “Confessions of a Shopaholic” during a terrific financial crisis, but it’s going up against a horror film being released on Friday the 13th.

There’s no way that “Friday the 13th (2009)” and its 3,000-plus theater opening isn’t going to top the box office.

Also out this weekend in wide release: “The International,” starring Clive Owen and Naomi Watts. Love them both, but I don’t think they have much chance of huge box office success this weekend.

Valentine’s Day reading list

If you wake up disappointed Feb. 15, you might want to check out the new book, “Why Hasn't He Proposed?”

Authors and relationship experts Matt Titus and Tamsen Fadal threw a book party for their new tome Feb. 11, and dished on why Jennifer Aniston might find herself still ringless this Valentine’s day.

“It's no secret every guy out there knows that Jen is trying to reconstruct the relationship she had with Brad,” Titus said. “She is searching for something that isn't out there. She also is not yet over Brad. No guy wants to compete with a ghost."

Brown bit Rihanna, hit her with fists

New details have emerged over the alleged incident on Sunday morning between Chris Brown and a woman who authorities have not officially identified, but a source tells Access Hollywood is Rihanna.

The source told Access Hollywood that Chris Brown allegedly hit Rihanna with his fists and bit her during the alleged incident, which took place around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Brown, 19, was arrested on Sunday and charged with felony criminal threats. He was released on $50,000 bail.
Brown, known in addition to his singing for his athletic feats of dancing — he has performed upside-down — previously said he studied martial arts, according to the New York Daily News.

The Los Angeles Police Department is still investigating the alleged domestic violence felony battery and told Access that additional charges may be filed.
Authorities released information to Access Hollywood that Brown and a woman were arguing in a car in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles just after midnight on Sunday. Brown reportedly stopped the car, he and the woman got out and the argument escalated. LAPD reports the woman suffered visible injuries.

Following the incident, Brown reportedly left, leaving Rihanna at the scene.

Radar Online reported that a source inside Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where Rihanna was reportedly taken following the incident, said the singer became emotional when two female “assistants” went to visit her at the facility.

Rihanna was clearly very upset by what had happened and I could hear her screaming,” the source said. “Rihanna was trying to get her point across about something, she sounded like she was crying as she tried to get… her point across.”
When contacted by Access on Sunday night, a rep for Rihanna said that the singer was “well.”

An assault allegation and arrest shatter the world of two of music’s rising young stars.

Rihanna is well. Thank you for concern and support,” the rep said.

A rep for Chris Brown did not return calls from Access.
Meanwhile, Wrigley announced Monday that it is suspending ad campaigns featuring Brown as its Doublemint gum spokesman. A company statement expresses concern about what it calls “serious allegations made against Chris Brown.”

Both Brown and Rihanna were no-shows for Sunday night’s Grammy Awards. Both were nominated and scheduled to perform.

Uno makes Westminster history

Good ol’ Snoopy, a champion at last.

Barking and baying up a storm, Uno lived up to his name Tuesday night by becoming the first beagle to win best in show at the Westminster Kennel Club.

The nation’s new top dog was clearly the fan favorite, and drew a roaring, standing ovation from the sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden when he was picked.

Uno got right into the act, jumping up on handler Aaron Wilkerson and confirming his other title: noisiest in show. Years from now, he’ll be known for the “ah-roo” heard ’round the ring.

“He’s a people’s dog, a merry little hound,” Wilkerson said.

westminster dog showUno poses with handler Aaron Wilkerson. Uno became the first beagle to winbest in show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Tuesday.

The only dog consistently listed among America’s most popular breeds for nearly 100 years, a beagle had never won in the 100 times Westminster picked a winner. That changed when judge J. Donald Jones pointed to this nearly 3-year-old package of personality.

Uno was numero uno, beating out two perfect poodles, a top Sealyham terrier, a sleek Weimaraner, a lively Australian shepherd and a sprightly Akita.

“We knew he was going to be No. 1. I didn’t know he’d do it this fast,” Wilkerson said.

Uno celebrated by chewing on the microphones of reporters who tried to interview his winning crew. Those had to suffice for the yellow, soft duck that’s his favorite toy.

“He’s perfect, he was a 10,” Jones said. “He does cuteness well.”

More than 169 breeds and varieties were represented at the 132nd Westminster Kennel Club event, and the competition brought 2,627 entries.

Barks echoed around Madison Square Garden as the crowd cheered its favorites, among them a Neapolitan mastiff that lumbered around the ring, a Chihuahua that spun in circles and a miniature pinscher that plucked a piece of food off the green carpet without missing a beat.

Formally known as K-Run’s Park Me in First, Uno came into this competition wagging his white-tipped tail with 32 best in show ribbons overall. Yet he was surely an underdog — make that an Underdog — because no beagle had even won the hound group since 1939.

But Uno fixed that, breezing in the 15-inch breed judging on Monday morning and taking his group several hours later. So while other dogs tried to reach the final ring Tuesday, Uno spent the day going on a brisk walk around Manhattan and taking a nap underneath his warm, fuzzy blanket.

But when it came time to show, Uno was as precocious and precious as ever.

With fans calling out his name and clapping, he soaked in the cheers as he paraded around the ring, the cheers becoming more thunderous with every step. And when he made his final stop in front of Jones, Uno went to town, baying over and over.

Even when he returned to sidelines as other dogs were judged, Uno kept going. Quite a win it was for Eddie Dziuk of Columbia, Mo., and the other three co-owners.

“My sister called me today and said she’s always turned off the dog show on TV because she’s tired of all those poodles winning,” Jon Woodring, one of the other co-owners, said earlier in the day. “But she watched last night. I think Uno winning would show that an everyday dog can do it.”

Longtime dog expert David Frei, the paw-by-paw announcer for USA Network’s coverage of the Westminster Kennel Club show, went even further.

“If he wins best in show, I’ll rent him an apartment in New York City because I’ll be traveling with him all year, so many people will want to see him,” he said. “If he won, it would be the greatest thing for our show.”

Better get that first rent check ready — Uno is here to stay.

No hound of any kind had won at Westminster since 1983, and a toy poodle that began the night with 108 best in show prizes stood in Uno’s way.

It was an upset in the show world, where wire fox terriers usually wobble off with the prize ribbon. Sort of like the boy-next-door becoming president — that’s how it was to see an everyday backyard pet earn the silver bowl.

With pleading, golden-brown eyes, Uno certainly looked like the picture of man’s best friend.

Is naked Heidi too heavy?

TAKE A long hard look at these pictures of a naked HEIDI KLUM on the cover of GQ and see if you think she’s “too heavy” to be a supermodel.

Because that’s what one idiot German fashion designer has claimed.

Wolfgang Joop blasted Heidi, who hosts the new series of Germany’s Next Top Model, in an extraordinary outburst.

He told Bild: “Heidi Klum is no runway model.

“She is simply too heavy and has too big a bust. And she always grins so stupidly.

“That is not avant-garde – that is commercial!”

Sadly he’s not the only one on the continent who thinks that way.

Model agency head Louisa von Minckwitz said she’s too curvy AND too short.

Fashion guru Karl Lagerfeld twisted the knife further, adding: “I don’t know Heidi Klum. She was never known in France. Claudia Schiffer also doesn’t know who she is.”

Heidi told GQ: “My husband has seen the photos.

“I think it’s good to be sexy for your partner.”
