At the Ciao website you can join for free and get paid to answer surveys and write product reviews on their website. It is optional whether you chose to review products or to answer surveys, but by doing a little bit of both you can easily earn a fair amount of extra money using the Ciao website. Read about the paid surveys process at Ciao here.
Paid Reviews
Ciao pays money when you write a review on a product and upload it to their website. For every member that reads and then rates your review you will earn a certain amount of money. There are also 'bonus' opportunities to earn money from your reviews, such as the competitions Ciao run and the Ciao Premium Award Fund every month. The Ciao website contains a huge database of products, all of which can be reviewed and which you will get paid for.
When you have searched for and located the product or service which you would like to review, click through to load the product details page. This page will contain links to existing reviews of that particular item, adverts and auctions relating to that item and the description or specification details. There should be a list of options on the middle of the page, usually next to the product title. There is one option to 'Write a review'. Click on this text link, and now you will be on the product-review page where you can write your own personal review on that product.
Writing The Review
There are a few options that you have to complete when writing your product review. Firstly you will need to think of a title, something that should make people want to click onto your review, and one which briefly reflects your opinion of the product in question. The 'Advantages' and 'Disadvantages' sections are self explanatory; simply note the best things about the product, followed by the worst things and leave any of these fields blank if necessary. The next box to complete is for the main product review and this should be at least five or six paragraphs, but the more written the better. The next step is to confirm that the review is your own work and then you can submit the review to the Ciao website.
It is possible to add pictures to the end of your review to make the review more visually appealing and so that the readers get a good view of the product being reviewed. Select "Upload Pictures" and you can add as many as seven images from your PC. They need to be titled and in some way related to the review you have just written. It is only possible to add pictures once you have upgraded past the 'White' colour rating (read below for more information on the colour-rating system).
Where the Review goes
As soon as you have clicked the 'Publish' button at the bottom of the Ciao 'Write a review' page your review will go live on the website. It will appear on the recent reviews list in the 'Members Center' and on the homepage until someone else submits another review and it will also appear in your personal Ciao account. It will be read and rated by other members of the Ciao community and they may also post a comment on the review if they desire. It will also be visible to non-members and they may stumble across your review via a search engine.
Requesting a new product addition
It is relatively straight-forward to get a new product new listed on the Ciao database. In order to do this you have to click onto the relevant category where the product should be situated. An example would be that if you want a monitor added, you would go to the 'Computers' category. This should bring up a list of search results. At the bottom there should be a link 'Product not found'. Simply follow this link and fill out the relevant details in the form provided. It is best to fill the form out with as much detail as you can, to ensure that your product gets added. If Ciao agree with the proposal, you will be sent an email with the link to the product/service, enabling you to write the first review at Ciao.
What is a Rating?
When another member reads your review, they will more than likely give it a rating. This will be based on how useful and relevant they found the review to be. The ratings range from 'Off-Topic' for a poor and irrelevant review to 'Exceptional' for those really outstanding contributions. A 'Very Helpful' rating is the most commonly awarded rating and a 'Helpful' rating is certainly not be sniffed at. These ratings will reflect how good your review is and where it ranks in the list of other reviews on the same subject. These ratings and user reads will also give you community points. Most importantly, every time someone reads and rates your review, you will earn money.
What are Community Points?
There are a number of ways to earn community points when using the Ciao website. They can be gained from writing reviews, receiving review ratings from other members, rating and commenting on other reviews and referring members to the site. They have no monetary value but go towards reflecting your status on the site and therefore respect amongst other members. As you accumulate more points, the dot beside your username will change, starting with white then green with gold being the ultimate aim.
When do you earn Money?
Ciao will pay you a commission every time your review is read and rated by another member. The amount that you get each time is determined by Ciao. When you click on a product you want to review, there should be some '£' symbols next to the name. If there is one '£' symbol then you get 0.5p, '£ £ ' you get 1p and '£££' you will receive 2p per read and rate of your review by a member. If you are the first to review an item, you will get double the commission, so you can earn as much as 4p per review rating.
Payments
The money that you receive when your reviews are rated is added to your account nearly instantly. The amounts will then be categorised so you know what you have been paid for; answering surveys, writing reviews and referring new members to the Ciao website. The money from surveys may take up to a month to be added to your account, but it will arrive eventually. The minimum payout from Ciao is £5 which can be paid into any UK bank account.
