Adebayor saw red for a second bookable offence when he raised his foot and elbow against Arbeloa.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who could lose crocked Cesc Fabregas for up to eight weeks, called ref Howard Webb’s decision ‘a joke’.
Adebayor said: “The defender threw himself on the floor as if I put a knife in him. I hope when the referee goes home and watches it on the TV, he will see it was a foul but I didn’t deserve a card.
“Of course I’m annoyed. I cannot say he cheated but what he did wasn’t fair play at all.
“It was a mistake by the ref. He said it was for the leg but if I don’t put my body in there I would never score a goal in this league.”
Wenger was furious with Webb for both yellow cards he dished out to Adebayor as well as other decisions.
The Gunners boss claimed the official cost his team victory following the striker’s second-half dismissal.
Robin van Persie gave Arsenal a 24th-minute lead but Robbie Keane equalised with a stunning strike just before the break.
Wenger said: “It was a very soft sending off.
“Today we had the ‘Be a Gooner, Be a Giver’ charity appeal — you cannot say the referee was a Gooner today but he was a giver because he gave us yellow cards we did not deserve.
“Every week I sit in front of you when we play away from home and you say ‘People get in your faces and you cannot cope with it’. Have you seen anybody sent off?
“Do you want me to show you our players and the damage done to them after the game? It’s a joke.”
Van Persie said: “At the start, we wanted a win but after the red card we are not that unhappy with a point.
“One-one is not what we wanted but it’s not that bad considering what happened in the game.
“I didn’t see the incident but Ade told me he never touched him so if you take that then you have to say it was harsh.
“But we said we needed to keep going and we kept on fighting to the end.”
Arsenal are now sweating on the fitness of captain Fabregas who suffered medial knee ligament damage in a 50-50 tackle with Xabi Alonso.
Liverpool lead the Premier League by two points but will be overtaken tonight if Chelsea win at Everton.
